This apricot tree graces the lawn next to the Terror Creek Winery in Paonia, CO, and I was completely enthralled with the beautiful golden orange fruit hanging heavily from its branches. The winery was our last stop before heading back to Denver yesterday.
After a weekend in Palisade and Grand Junction, CO, tasting wine and freshly picked peaches, driving through vineyards and orchards, the National Monument and the Grand Mesa, we ended our trip in Paonia, beautiful Colorado wine country.
We visited with the owner of Terror Creek Winery for a few minutes, lingering over a few sips of wine, and then she handed me a brown paper bag and said I could pick as many apricots as I could reach, if I wanted to. How could I not want to? She can hardly keep up with harvesting the apricots before the birds nibble on them.
The kitchen counter is now covered with apricots, peaches, tomatoes and sweet cherries. I wonder what I'll make with all of them? I think we'll have some kind of fruit crumble this evening after dinner, and then it might be time to make jam.
I can't wait to share more from our trip, but until then, I leave you with apricots...
